Dr Joy Carpio has a robust background in electronics engineering, with specialized work in vehicle automation for traffic congestion management and a research focus on developing autonomous driving systems – designing algorithms and control frameworks. She also brings substantial teaching experience in electronics, controls engineering and foundational physics. Dr Carpio earned her PhD in systems engineering from UC Berkeley and is currently a researcher at Nissan Advanced Technology Center, Silicon Valley, where she develops cooperative driving automation solutions to optimize real-world highway traffic flow.
