Dr. Carrie Bobier-Tiu (she/her) is an expert in safety-oriented AD/ADAS, holistic control solutions, and vehicle dynamics analysis. She currently serves as the Head of Behavior and Director of Engineering within Woven by Toyota’s AD/ADAS organization. Her department is responsible for accelerating ML and AI technology to deliver prediction, planning, and control software for safer, smoother, and more intuitive vehicle behaviors.
Carrie received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2012, Master’s of Mechanical Engineering in 2007, and Bachelor’s of Mechanical Engineering in 2006, all from Stanford University, with a focus on vehicle dynamics and control. Prior to her position at Woven by Toyota, she spent 5 years at Toyota Research Institute (TRI), researched tactical control for extreme autonomous driving maneuvers at Renault, and designed high-performance server-class hard disk drive (HDD) controllers at HGST.
Carrie has served as an ERG leader, mentor, and advocate within various Toyota group programs dedicated to supporting women, parents, and LGBTQ+. She also contributes time to the greater community as a board member for the Cupertino Cooperative Nursery School since 2020.
Carrie enjoys weightlifting and traveling with her husband and two young children, ages 4 and 8 (and especially enjoys days at Disneyland).
